authoritative source for citations to journal articles and non-journal
literature on all
aspects of education.
Searching ERIC:
- University Library's homepage
http://library.csustan.edu/
- Click Journal Articles and Databases, then click Education.
- Click on ERIC (through FirstSearch).
- Try starting with a keyword search. Use core terms or phrases for your search, not sentences.
- If you are
unsure of the correct terminology to represent the concepts in your search,
browse the online thesaurus by clicking on Subjects.
- Use and to connect concepts (for example, reading instruction and
action research). Both concepts will be present in your results.
- When you limit to journal articles, also limit to subscriptions held by
my library to find articles from journals subscribed by the University
Library.
- Limit to Peer Reviewed for journal articles validated by
scholars in the field.
- You may display the results ranked by Date or
Relevance.
- Browse through the results and look at the descriptors to get ideas for other search terms.
Finding Articles:
- Click
to see if the article is available in full-text
online.
- You may obtain articles from journals that the library does not subscribe by submitting an
online Interlibrary Loan Form. Click on Interlibrary Loan under
Services on the library's homepage. Use the article request form
(photocopy).

Remote Access:
- When you click on the name of the database from off-campus, enter
your CSUStan
e-mail ID before the @ sign and your password.
Academic Search Elite
- Good starting point for your research.
- Index to over 8 million articles published in over 3000 periodicals,
including 2500 peer-reviewed journals representing all disciplines, with
full-text articles from over 1500 peer-reviewed journals and 500 general
periodicals.
- Click Journal Articles and Databases, then click Education.
- Limit the current search to Full Text to retrieve the complete
article instead of only citations and abstracts.
- Limit the current search to Scholarly (Peer-Reviewed Journals) to
retrieve results from scholarly journals.
- You may also limit by date, publication type, or
journal title.
Retrieving articles:
- Click on the title of the article to read the full text.
- To print or e-mail full-text articles, use the links at
the top of the screen.
- If the full text is unavailable in Academic Search Elite, click
to determine if the full text is available in another database, or in print
in the University Library.
- The subject terms displayed towards the top of the screen can
give you ideas for other search terms.
Education Full Text
- Many full text articles from education journals from 1984-present.
- Click Journal Articles and Databases, then click Education.
- Use the online thesaurus to check for subject headings
representing the concepts of your search.
- Limit options include Full Text Articles and Peer Reviewed
journals.
- When browsing the results, check the Subjects for other search
terms.
- Use the same steps to search as described above.
