What are they?
Articles in scholarly journals, often peer-reviewed
Identifying Useful Articles: Research Tools
Use a database like Social Work Abstracts to identify research articles on a specific topic in social work.
Use other research databases to identify relevant articles from journals in a related disciplines.
Articles available online
The library's Electronic Journals page lists journals available to CSU Stanislaus students online.
Articles in main branch of library (Turlock)
Library Catalog identifies which journals and volumes are held in Turlock.
If desired journal and volume is listed in the Library Catalog, fill out and submit Request Items from Turlock form.
Articles should be available for pick-up in Stockton Library 2 business days after submitting form.
Articles not available online or in Turlock
Articles not held by CSU Stanislaus Library may be requested via Interlibrary Loan.
Interlibrary Loan items are usually available for pick-up 1-3 weeks after submitting request

    (Use ERIC or another journal database to identify articles.)

To retrieve a book from Turlock:
  1. Search Library Catalog and identify author, title and call number.
  2. Complete online request form (current student ID needed).
  3. Materials will be available in Stockton Library Access Center in 2 business days.

To request a book be borrowed from another library:
  1. Identify author, title and publication date.
  2. Search Library Catalog to make sure CSU Stanislaus does not own it.

Dissertation Abstracts
Search for dissertations done at institutions worldwide.
Most dissertations are only available from the institution that granted the degree.
To request a loan of a dissertation, submit an Interlibrary Loan request form (use the book version).
