What is ERIC?

descriptions of education journal articles (EJ) & ERIC documents (ED) (from 1966 - present)
compiled by U.S. Department of Education, most comprehensive description of education research
searchable by author, title, subject (official subject terms are described in the thesaurus)

The University Library provides two separate interfaces to ERIC. Both versions search the same descriptions of education research. First Search allows limiting the search to journals held by the University Library. The CSA interface allows simultaneous searching of ERIC and the Physical Education Abstracts database.

SFX - Link to Full-Text Online: Click SFX button .; If SFX window says Full text available, click link to access article.; If SFX says "We may own this. Check the library catalog," note the volume/year of journal containing the desired article, and use the link to see if the Main Library has the journal in the print collection.
Print Journals and Books in the CSUS Library: Library Catalog: To see if CSU Stanislaus has the printed version of the journal:; Use online request form to retrieve materials from CSU Stanislaus Library in Turlock.; Materials will be available in Stockton Library Access Center in 2 business days
Journals Online: Electronic Journals Online: List of 9,000 titles available online from the CSU Stanislaus Library. All can be accessed on campus
ERIC Documents: Some are available online in microfiche (Stockton and Turlock), in books, or via Interlibrary Loan (see below)
Items Not Owned by CSU Stanislaus Library: Interlibrary Loan: Order items from ILL not on the Library Catalog, in ERIC online collection, or in an online journal; Use Book form for ERIC documents, and Periodical form for journal articles; Materials usually take 1-3 weeks to arrive

Retrieving the Full-text of ERIC Documents
ERIC Documents Online (1996 - present): Most documents (ED type 1) from 1996 - present are freely available online.; In the FirstSearch interface, look for the Access ERIC: Full Text link.
ERIC Microfiche in Stockton: (1982 - 1989): Most documents (ED type 1&2) published from 1982 - 1989 are available in Stockton Library's ERIC microfiche collection.
ERIC Microfiche in Turlock: (1966 - present): Most documents (ED type 1&2) published from 1966 - present are available in Turlock.; Submit Request items from Turlock (book form) to have desired document available for pick-up in Stockton Library in 2 business days..
ERIC Documents in Turlock Book Collection: A few ERIC Documents are published as books and some of those are available in the library's collection.; Search Library Catalog to see if a title is available in the library's collection.; Submit Request items from Turlock ( book form) to have desired document available for pick-up in Stockton Library in 2 business days..
