Currently registered CSU Stanislaus students, faculty and staff are able to access restricted (i.e. licensed) Library resources from computers located off campus. To access resources remotely, users must first be authenticated -- a process which occurs automatically. Beginning in September 2001, those who are using the Library's resources remotely for the first time will automatically be prompted for their CSUS (library) ID number and last name. No setup or configuration of Web browsers is required. Those CSUS faculty, staff and students who have been using resources remotely prior to September 2001 can continue to access them as they have been doing. (These established users will have configured their Web browsers to use the Library's original proxy server, and that proxy server continues to be supported, so no changes are required at this time. The prompts for these established users continue to be the CSUS (library) ID number and the first four letters of the user's last name.) America Online (AOL) and CompuServ users will be happy to learn that as of September 2001, they too can now access Library resources remotely using the Library's new authentication server. Previously, these users were unable to take advantage of remote access because AOL and CompuServ do not permit use of a proxy server. To see what the authentication screen looks like, click here.
