Contest Rules:
- The Competition is open to all regularly enrolled undergraduate and graduate students at CSU Stanislaus.
- Collections shall consist of at least 25 titles owned and collected by the student.
- Collections do not need to consist of rare books or hardbacks. The substance of the collection and its meaning to the owner will be of chief importance.
- Entries will be judged on those qualities expressed in the contest description in this brochure and must include:
- A) Essay which describes how and why the collection was assembled and its personal significance to the owner. The essay should single-spaced and not exceed three pages in length. Name, major, address, email, telephone number, and student ID # must be included in the title page of the entry. [sample essay]
- B) A bibliography of at least 25 titles, each numbered. Contestants must prepapre their bibliographies utilizing APA, MLA, or Chicago citation style (contestants can view the Library's style guides at http://library.csustan.edu/citation-style.htm). Style manuals are available in the library and they can be checked out.
- C) A wish list bibliography with at least ten titles that would enhance the collection.
- Entries must be submitted to the Dean of Library Services, L105, by the contest deadline. Email entries are not acceptable. Contestants may consult with the Dean (667-3232) prior to the closing date if they have questions about the eligibility of their collections. The Library Administration will be responsible for making copies for each of the judges.
- Each of the three finalists will be notified in advance of the awards ceremony and asked to submit 10 representative books for an exhibit lasting approximately one month in the University Library.
- The complete entry (essay and bibliographies) will be kept by the University Library.
- Responsibility for the Warrior Book Contest will rest with the Dean of Library Services.
