Research Skills Instruction

Online resources are making research more complex.  Therefore, librarians are becoming more involved in teaching students, staff, and faculty how to access materials, develop successful research strategies, and evaluate this wealth of information available online and in print.

As always, drop by the reference desk in the library or contact a librarian for personalized instruction.  For more information about the library instruction program, contact Tim Held   (theld@csustan.edu, 664-6555).

Course-integrated Instruction (requested by instructor)

Instructors often request librarians to visit their classroom, or for their class to visit the library computer instruction lab (L240) to guide students through appropriate resources for a particular research assignment.  To ensure relevance, these are scheduled when students are about to begin their research.

In these sessions, Librarians can target specific resources for the discipline or assignment, as well as give practice in searching the catalog and databases.  These sessions supplement the online guides and in-person instruction at the library, and are tailored to students' needs for a particular assignment.  If you are ready to schedule a library session for your students, please fill out this form.
